The Honda Next Generation Fuel Cell Module unveiled today is being independently developed by Honda as a successor to the current model Honda jointly developed with General Motors (GM).

A key feature of the 3rd Gen FC System is its application in heavy-duty commercial vehicles. Toyota states that the new system provides durability comparable to diesel engines while delivering high power output. Additionally, the system has been made more compact for easier integration into various vehicle designs.

Engineers also focused on improving fuel efficiency and this results in a 20% increase in “cruising range.” While the current Mirai can travel 402 miles (647 km) between stops, hydrogen prices in California skyrocketed to record highs last year. This means any increase in fuel efficiency would be a welcome development.
