Four huge-size asteroids are racing towards Earth today, September 20. These asteroids are expected to pass by the planet at around 1 pm, 8 pm, 9 pm, and 11 pm. The size of the first asteroid named 2024 RJ1 is 19.

NASA declared the two large asteroids “potentially hazardous” to Earth, which in another cosmic event is set to gain a “second moon” next week.

Studying Bennu is imperative because the asteroid has a slim shot of eventually hitting Earth. NASA said in a 2021 paper from the OSIRIS-REx science team gives Bennu a [one-in-2,700] chance of impacting Earth on Sept. 24, 2182.

An asteroid roughly the size of an airplane, measuring around 130 feet, is set to make its closest approach to Earth today.

Today’s asteroid, 2022 SW3, will come within three times the distance between the Earth and Moon. Despite its proximity, scientists emphasise there is no immediate threat to Earth. The close pass offers researchers a chance to gather vital data.
