An employee of the Department of Sanitation died on Saturday after falling out of a garbage truck while on the job in Queens. Richard Errico, a 19-year veteran of the department, fell off the truck on Douglaston Parkway in Little Neck around 6 p.

It was not clear on Sunday what caused Errico — who worked for the sanitation department for 19 years — to fall out of the truck.

He and other sanitation workers “went to work every day to make a difference in their communities,” the New York City mayor said.
