Special Olympics Missouri is gearing up for their 19th annual Maryland Heights Polar Plunge on Saturday. Over 400 attendees are signed up to brave the cold and take the plunge, all for a great cause at Creve Coeur Lake.

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) - The 19th annual Cape Polar Plunge was a success according to Special Olympics Missouri. Officials with the organization say the event raised more than $64,000. They say 165 men and women turned out in costumes to participate in the chilly dip in the lake at Cape County Park North.

“People brave the icy cold water to benefit the athletes of Special Olympics,” said Jen Kelso, vice president of program services and chief operating officer for Special Olympics Indiana. “They will polar plunge, just a polar bear, into the cold pool.”

The Polar Plunge in Cape County Park North saw 165 participants braving icy waters to raise $64,000 for Special Olympics athletes.

In support of Special Olympic Illinois athletes, some in the Mahomet community will take an icy plunge this weekend. The Mahomet Polar Plunge will be held Saturday, Feb. 15, at the Lake of the Woods.

We’re looking back at an event that made a splash this past weekend. The annual Rochester Polar Plunge saw more than 900 people take the icy leap.

Polar Plunge is their most invigorating fundraiser of the year where individuals who pledge to plunge jump in icy cold waters to benefit Special Olympics athletes.
