Liverpool delivered one of their worst performances of the season in the Carabao Cup final, with Federico Chiesa’s stoppage-time goal not enough to prevent Newcastle from getting their hands on the trophy thanks to efforts either side of half-time by Dan Burn and Alexander Isak.

Liverpool head coach Arne Slot dismissed the idea Newcastle United's players were "hungrier" in Sunday's Carabao Cup final, but admitted Eddie Howe's side were deserved winners.

It's safe to say that in the sheer stress of seeing out those final stages, I've lost fingernails and possibly years from my life but at Newcastle United, we never make it easy.
