The stock market opened in green as trading for the week began on Monday, January 20, 2025, with private banks and media stocks rising the most. At 9:20 am IST, the benchmark BSE Sensex was up by 107.

The S P BSE Sensex was up 168.02 points to 76,787.35, while the NSE Nifty50 was up 31.55 points to 23,234.75 as of 10 AM.

BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices ended flat. Among sectors, IT and Bank indices shed 2 percent each, while oil & gas, power, FMCG, PSU, capital goods, realty and metal indices added 1 percent each.

Indian equity benchmarks, BSE Sensex and Nifty50, saw a sharp decline in opening trade on Friday. BSE Sensex fell over 450 points, while Nifty50 dropped below 23,200. At 10 am, the Sensex dropped by 363.

The stock market plunged into the red on Friday, January 17, as IT, private banks, and auto stocks fell. At 9:20am, the benchmark BSE Sensex was down by 451 points or 0.59%, reaching 76,591.82. The broader NSE Nifty was down by 140.

The trends on Gift Nifty also indicate a negative start for the Indian benchmark index. The Gift Nifty was trading around 23,325 level, a discount of nearly 52 points from the Nifty futures’ previous close.

The stock market seems to be continuing its rally for the third consecutive day by opening in the green on Thursday.
