According to a report by insider Frank Seravalli, New Jersey Devils defenseman, Brett Pesce, is joining Team USA for the 4 Nations Face-Off championship game against Team Canada.

With Hughes unavailable, Team USA has extended invitations to Buffalo Sabres forward Tage Thompson and New Jersey Devils defenseman Brett Pesce to join the team in Boston as injury replacements. Like Hughes, Thompson and Pesce would only be available to play if another member of the team is unable to play.

"Hearing Team USA has invited New Jersey Devils D Brett Pesce and Buffalo Sabres C Tage Thompson to travel to Boston as insurance for potential illness / injury replacements ahead of clash versus Canada," Seravalli said. "USA would need to drop below roster minimum thresholds for either to enter lineup."

Mike Sullivan wouldn’t say who is going to play for Team USA in Thursday’s final of the NHL 4 Nations Face-Off in Boston. But everybody on his roster except for Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy is capable of playing when the Americans face Canada at 8 p.m. at TD Garden.

The Boston Bruins are upset with Team USA. Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman has reported that the Bruins are furious with how the American team handled defenseman Charlie McAvoy’s shoulder injury at the 4 Nations Face-Off tournament.

Despite being unable to play in the 4 Nations finale, Charlie McAvoy found a way to fire up his Team USA teammates. Ahead of their crushing 3-2 overtime loss to Team Canada on Thursday, defenseman McAvoy announced his team’s starting lineup from the locker room.

Charlie McAvoy isn’t able to play for Team USA tonight in the 4 Nations Championship game against Team Canada. But there was no way he was missing it. Fresh out of the hospital, McAvoy was visibly emotional in the U.
