Walk to the bridge is worthwhile- scenery when you get there is beautiful. Turquoise waters of the gorge are a standout !Full review by gpjrm

I just went to Hokitika gorge today after heavy rain and the water color is grey and swift. What I wonder is how long the river is going to turn back to blue color. I’m planing to go back again tomorrow.

I just went to Hokitika gorge again the day after heavy rain to find answer myself. Today is a sunny day but the color of the river still grey but milkier than yesterday and isn’t as swift as yesterday. It seem getting better but not blue at all. I think it might take 1-3 days to recover from grey to blue if the weather is great (not raining). Anyway from my research the vibrant, milky turquoise color of the water here is due to the fact it is glacial fed and full of 'rock flour’ not a reflecting from the sky. The color of the river can effected by the high flow rate of the water.
