This is an interesting place. The panning for gold was the best part. The tour of the mine was very limited. The guide was nice. Full review by Z6137BOscottm

It was fine. Thought there would be more to it with the cost of $30 a person. There were good stories, but it was lacking more instruction about how the mill operated. Full review by Colleen E

Very interesting. Our tour guide was great. Full of stories on how the mill operated. I was surprised at how well the mill was preserved. Full review by kchase4970

Questions & answers

Q:
Do we have to make a reservation, or can we take a tour, the day of/when we get there?
A:
I would reserve to be safe. If there is room you can do a walk in.
Q:
Is this tour accessible? I have a mobility scooter.
A:
No. There are several set of steps that we went up and down. The outdoor section of the tour is accessible, but going inside the mill is not.

A:
Hell there. You walk into it, is a more accurate description. It’s a tunnel bored into the side of a hill. It’s spacious and well lit with a solid walking path. You will go 110’ in. There is a sturdy …

We'd like to pan for gold AND gems. Is this possible on 1 tour?

I don't think that gems are a part of the panning activity at the ARGO mine; just gold. Of course it's a simulated and staged activity meant to give the visitor an idea of the patience which was required of those who did it for a living during the gold rush. Have fun!
Q:
We'd like to pan for gold AND gems. Is this possible?
A:
Yes, you are allowed to pan in the nearby river. They also teach you how to pan there at the museum with bags of sand that contain about 4 small gold nuggets.
