Lake Wheeler Park is part of the Raleigh parks system and entrance is free to the public-much like Lake Johnson is. I did not pay an entrance fee at Lake Wheeler park and you may walk around and enjoy the scenery for free. However, there are fees if you want to rent a shelter, boat, etc. I'm not sure exactly when the boat rental season will start since it closes for the winter. You may find more park information at Raleigh's official website or by calling 919-662-5704. Enjoy!

They have a boat launch fee but I would not imagine that they would charge for a kayak or paddle board since you will likely be carrying those into the water by hand and not using a vehicle with trailer to launch. I'm not sure if the boat house office is even open in the winter to accept fees. Call the Raleigh parks department to find out for sure at 919-662-5704.
