The house itself is quite interesting but don't linger - the star of the show is the garden. No pictures can truly capture the effect of level upon level of sculptures, planting and amazing fountains…Full review by Steve M

We went without a guide , and it was fine . Of course a guide always adds that more information to make it a more valuable experience

You can buy on the day but would be subject to availability so online is probably a safer bet

The gardens are stunning but they are not particularly flowering gardens. The Villa D’Este grounds are mainly filled with greenery - established trees, tall cypresses, laurel hedges and shrubbery. You’ll find statues and winding paths and of course, the highlight is the fountains and water displays.
