I was in Truk in 1976. Best diving in the world. The islands were dry (no alcohol) because of problems with alcoholism. The diving was exceptional. Full review by pbrumlik

The wrecks are all within between 10 and 15 mins ride by boat from the resort, so not really an issue. Liveaboards will tie up on the wreck mooring, so you dive directly off the boat. Food on the liveaboards will probably be better, as they have a chef that makes everything from scratch. Food at the resort is simple, but not exceptional. In some destinations you are able to do many more dives on a liveaboard than shore based due to location and travel time to dive sites, but thats not the case here as you are limited generally to 2 dives per day based on depths. I don't necessarily have a strong opinion, but from my experience wouldn't hesitate to do shore based again.
