There is the National Glass Centre which is in Sunderland about 2 miles from Souter Lighthouse. If you wish to venture further Beamish Museum near Chester le Street is about 15 miles away and Durham city which is about 10 miles away with its Castle and Cathedral.

there is a fee, I think it worked out to be about £20 per family, cant remember exactly but there is a fee, its reduced if your a national trust member.
