Sorry for the delay in reply. RE Soldiers records can be traced using the MOD ministry of Defense in Whitehall. (Army) also the Royal Engineers Association may have info on this. Do …

Sorry for the delay in reply. RE Soldiers records can be traced using the MOD ministry of Defense in Whitehall. (Army) also the Royal Engineers Association may have info on this. Do you have the medals ? Did he claim them ? You can claim them from the MOD (Army) as a close relative, tell them he never collected them at the end of the War. A lot of people did not. I got my Dad's (RAF). The Museum may have he's service dates, you can write to them and they will search what records they still keep, as mentioned a lot are digital now and keep at Kew National records office, some are at Ancestry. You can go to a local library and use their PC's to trace you family history, the maximum is an hour at a time. I managed to trace all family back to 1600. The service records are mainly service number and Regt with a brief record.
