Hello, we're hoping to do this walk when we visit Great Barrier Island soon. Is it 3hrs return or 3 hrs one way? We're in our 40s, with reasonable fitness. Cheers!

Fantastic views and a most do walk on Great Barrier If you only do 1 walk on the island the 3 hour return loop from Windy Canyon to Mt Hobson and back is the one you should do. The walk takes you through some wonderful rock formations, low bush, regenerating Kauri and scenic viewpoints. On arriving at the summit you have stunning views over the entire island. Return the way you came in or follow the track towards the Hirakimata hut and the down to the Kaitoke Hot Springs ~ 5 hours on one way from the Windy Canyon car park to experience the diverse vegetation, old tramways and have a soak in the natural hot pools. Pre arrange transport for the one way trip via The Island mail run Ph: (+649)4290474. We parked at the bottom (Kaitoke hot springs) car park & got collected from there and taken to the start of the Windy Canyon walk. A great day incredible views. Walking maps freely available at the airport.
