There is a small fee (a few dollars). Some parking...kids might like it. Doesn't take long to see it (half hour to an hour, tops). Avoid hottest part of the day if possible. Bring water.

you definitely need a taxi into town. also, the fort is a fair hike from the cathedral. The concierge can organize a taxi. We paid $35.00 for a good tour with stops where we wanted.
